There are three drive variants for the ZIMM ZA-I inline actuator. DA is a direct drive without integrated gear reduction. P1 is a single-stage planetary gear with a gear ratio of 6:1, while P2 is a two-stage planetary gear with an overall gear ratio of 36:1. All three variants are provided in sizes 25, 50, 100 and 200 kN.
Technical comparison of DA, P1 and P2
The example for the stroke per input shaft revolution refers exclusively to the ZA-I-50 with ball screw drive KGT 40×20.
| Criterion | DA | P1 | P2 |
| Version | Direct drive | Planetary gear, singlestage | Planetary gear, twostage |
| Gear ratio | 1:1 | 6:1 | 36:1 |
| Stroke per input shaft revolution (KGT 40×20) | 20,00 mm | 3,33 mm | 0,56 mm |
| Drive unit efficiency (without screw) | 1,00 | 0,98 | 0,95 |
| Motor connection | Standard coupling KUZ | Clamp coupling KUZ-KK | Clamp coupling KUZ-KK |
Can an external geared motor be used with the ZA-I direct drive DA?
Yes. The direct drive DA is the ZA-I drive unit without integrated reduction (gear ratio 1:1, efficiency 1.00). The screw is driven directly via the standard coupling KUZ – whether by an IEC standard motor or a geared motor depends on the application. An external geared motor then provides the reduction that is integrated into the actuator in the P1 and P2 variants. This is useful when a specific motor concept is required – such as servo technology – or when a gear ratio other than 6:1 and 36:1 is needed.
The same sizing rules apply as for P1 and P2: the gear ratio and efficiency of the external gearbox are included in the calculation of the drive torque, a motor brake remains mandatory for ball screw drives, and the overall length of the drive unit is determined by the geared motor plus coupling. Other geared motors can be connected on a project-specific basis using the direct drive dimension drawing (flange dimensions, coupling sizes KUZ-45 to KUZ-90A).
