Same basic function, different drive arrangements and gearbox concepts.
With the ZA industrial actuator and the ZA-I inline actuator, ZIMM offers two series for electromechanical lifting movements. Both are available in sizes 25, 50, 100 and 200 kN and with either a trapezoidal screw or a ball screw drive. The design difference lies in the arrangement and configuration of the drive.
How do ZA and ZA-I differ?
| Criterion | ZA Series | Actuators | ZA-I Series | Actuators |
| Drive arrangement | At right angles to the lifting axis | Coaxial with the lifting axis |
| Gearbox principle | Worm gear | Direct drive or planetary gear |
| Gear ratios | Two ratios per size (e.g. ZA-50: 7:1 and 28:1) | DA 1:1; P1 single-stage 6:1; P2 two-stage 36:1 |
| Motor position | Lateral to the lifting axis | In the axial direction behind the actuator |
| Max. input speed | ZA-25: 3000 min⁻¹; ZA-50 to ZA-200: 1800 min⁻¹ | All sizes: 3000 min⁻¹ |
| System concept | Extensions with connecting shafts and bevel gearboxes | Inline concept with its own motor connection |
Which installation situation favours which design?
The ZA requires lateral installation space for the worm gear and motor. The ZA-I places the drive unit and motor on the lifting axis; the space requirement in the axial direction must therefore be taken into
account. The dimensions of the complete unit, including motor and add-on parts, are decisive for the respective application.
Does the same load rating mean the same operating conditions?
No. Although the load ratings have the same designations for both series, the permissible operating conditions depend on the design, screw drive, stroke, fastening, speed and duty cycle. The ZA-I complements the ZA with an additional drive arrangement; it does not replace it.
