The lubricant change on the ZIMM ZK bevel gearbox differs depending on the version with or without oil holes. In addition, safety and application notes as well as the lubricant quantities for each size must be observed. The procedures should therefore be presented separately.
What must be observed before changing the lubricant on the ZIMM ZK bevel gearbox?
- Leakage of lubricants possible.
- Avoid eye contact.
- Wear personal protective equipment.
- Ensure that lubricant cannot enter the environment.
- High operating temperatures must be observed.
- Do not use multi-purpose greases.
- Do not mix greases.
- Only use lubricants approved by ZIMM GmbH.
- Different lubricants may be required depending on the application.
- Due to production reasons, lubricant quantities during initial filling and during lubricant changes may differ.

How is the lubricant changed on a ZIMM ZK bevel gearbox with oil holes?
- Warm up the ZIMM ZK bevel gearbox to approx. 40°C.
- Place a suitable container underneath to catch the lubricant.
- Open the drain screw.
- Optionally open the additional sealing screw for better air supply.
- Close the drain screw again after complete emptying.
- Fill the ZIMM ZK bevel gearbox with suitable lubricant.
- Fill in the lubricant quantity according to the lubricant quantity table.
- If an oil sight glass is present, the oil level must reach the upper edge of the oil sight glass.
How is the lubricant changed on a ZIMM ZK bevel gearbox without oil holes?
- Warm up the ZIMM ZK bevel gearbox to approx. 40°C.
- Place a suitable container underneath to catch the lubricant.
- Position the gearbox so that the bearing flange with the drive shaft points upwards.
- Loosen the screw connection of the bearing flange.
- Mark the position of the drive shaft and output shaft relative to each other.
- Remove the bearing flange including the drive shaft.
- Turn the ZIMM ZK bevel gearbox by 180° and empty it completely.
- Reposition the bearing flange opening upwards.
- Fill the ZIMM ZK bevel gearbox with suitable lubricant.
- Fill in the lubricant quantity according to the lubricant quantity table.
- The lubricant level should settle at approximately the axis height of the output shaft.
- Insert the bearing flange carefully and ensure that the markings match.
- Tighten the screw connection of the bearing flange again.
