A bevel gearbox with redundant bearing support is designed to maintain functionality or allow safe emergency operation in the event of a bearing failure. This is technically achieved through:

  • Two bearings per shaft, often configured as fixed/free bearings or symmetrically (e.g., tapered roller bearings), to absorb both axial and radial forces.
  • Parallel bearing paths or dual bearing points that provide mutual backup.
  • Bearing placement in different housing sections (e.g., motor and gearbox) to enable load distribution.
  • Oversized bearings that remain operational even in case of partial damage.

Precise alignment, preload, and lubrication are critical, as bevel gears generate high combined forces. These designs are typically used in safety-critical applications such as aerospace or wind power.
