Bevel gearboxes can be combined with planetary stages to achieve both a change in direction (typically 90° via the bevel gear) and a compact, high-torque transmission (via the planetary stage). There are two main coupling variants:

  • Bevel gear before planetary stage: First redirects the drive angle, then transmits torque – ideal for angular input with coaxial output.
  • Planetary stage before bevel gear: First reduces speed and increases torque, then changes direction – suitable for high-speed input drives.

Both stages can also be integrated into a shared housing, e.g. in robotics or vehicle drive systems. A precise mechanical match is crucial to ensure proper force distribution, bearing alignment, and backlash control.
